EUIPO launches AI-powered trademark pre-assessment tool

Alicante, November 7, 2025 – The EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) has unveiled Early TM Screening, a new online tool that helps applicants identify potential problems with a planned EU trademark prior to filing. The standalone system bundles various preliminary checks, which were previously distributed throughout the e-filing process, into a single user-friendly interface. The goal is to detect common grounds for refusal—such as a likelihood of confusion with earlier marks or formal deficiencies—at an early stage to avoid rejections and make the application process more efficient and error-tolerant. By receiving early warnings of potential risks, trademark applicants can save time and costs and prepare stronger, compliant trademark applications from the outset. With this AI-supported screening service, the EUIPO is reinforcing its digital strategy to better support companies, start-ups, and IP professionals in trademark filing.
